When Your Higher Power Sings to You…

If you have read my book, Recovery 2.0, you know I feel strongly that we can recover from addiction and that we MUST thrive on the path of recovery.

There have been a few key elements that have made it possible for me to thrive. Today, I want to share one that most people are not even aware of much less using in their recoveries.

It is called The Naad, which really means sound or essence of sound.

There is a whole approach to understanding how to use mantra, sound and meditation to affect consciousness called Naad Yoga. It has been one of the main ingredients in my successful recovery from addiction and it remains one of the most important parts of my daily practice.

Think of a time when you have been deeply moved by a piece of music. Something about it touched you in such a way that your emotional state was changed, your mind quieted and your body compelled to joyous dance. The power of music is not a foreign concept to any of us. Certain kinds of music have the power to heal.

I speak a lot about the Frequency of Addiction, a certain vibrational attunement that keeps us stuck as if in forcefield.

The Naad is a particular and fundamental frequency that we can tap into by chanting mantra and listening to certain kinds of music. It refers to the vibrational harmony of the Infinite. I’ll put it to you like this, your Higher Power is singing, and the song is coming to you in the vibration of the Naad.

There are some very gifted devotional musicians in our world today who with their music and song can help you to connect into The Naad, to touch bliss, to heal and to grow. The husband and wife musical duo known as Aykanna deserve mention here.

As some of you know, Aykanna joins Kia and I on our annual Recovery 2.0 retreat to Costa Rica where they perform live in our yoga classes and teach about mantra, devotion and the Naad.

I can remember the first time I heard their live performance of “Blue Zone” from the album “Mother“. We were in Costa Rica in one of the most beautiful Yoga pavilions in the world. It was a beautiful morning overlooking the pacific ocean with the sound of the howler monkeys in the distance and the smell of fresh dew in the jungle.

This guitar started and then percussion and then voice. What language was that? I’d never heard anything like it, but I was transfixed.

Later, I would learn that, woven into this song, they were singing the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic, the original language that Jesus spoke in. BLEW MY MIND! To this day, when I hear that track, I stop everything I’m doing, including thinking, and lose myself in the Naad. You just have to hear it for yourself.

From November 21-28 (Thanksgiving), we will once again head down to the “Blue Zone” in Costa Rica with Aykanna. We still have a few spaces left. Please apply today and come hear Aykanna live as we practice yoga and meditate to advance ourselves beyond the frequency of addiction.

With Love and Gratitude,
Tommy Rosen
